Duties

Individual Responsibilities

To conduct audits on hose assemblies and to a target time
To carry out Incoming inspections on components (IQA)
To follow inspection Standard Work
To clearly communicate defects to Operations and support area personnel as defects are identified
To provide detailed quality feedback at daily quality meetings

Environment Management Team (EMT) sits under the Platform Integration (PI) group within the Trusted Borders (TB) program.

o The regular calibration of equipment provided for monitoring levels of ionising radiation and regular checking that such equipment is serviceable and correctly used
o The periodic examination and testing of engineering controls, design features, safety features and warning devices and regular checking of systems of work provided to restrict exposure to ionising radiation
· In addition, the provision of advice on matters such as;
o The risk assessment required by regulation 7
o The designation of controlled and supervised areas as required by regulation 16
o The conduct of the various investigations required by IRR99 and the Company
o The drawing up of contingency plans
o Dose assessment and recording as required by regulation 21
· To support the advice and guidance provided by other health physics practitioners i.e. health physicists, health physics supervisors and health physics surveyors to ensure it is consistent with the requirements of IRR99 and Licence Condition 18 (LC18) of the Nuclear Site Licence

Responsibilities
· Safe, Secure & Clean
o Provision of advice and guidance on all radiological protection matters to Facility Managers, Operations Managers and Project Managers as appropriate
o Support to new build projects as required by Head of Radiation Protection
o Create and maintain a culture of zero accidents / incidents relating to matters of health, safety, security and the environment as required by “Target Zero”
o Ensure company strategies, policies and management systems on radiation protection are effectively communicated and understood
o Establish clear communication with employees and contractors on the need for compliance with statutory, regulatory and Company requirements
o Promote and critically evaluate standards of radiation protection within area of responsibility and at a company level
o In conjunction with facility management, manage the appointment and regular review of Radiation Protection Supervisors as required in the company safety procedures
o Support Company arrangements for emergency response on-site and where appropriate off-site
o Support health physics on-call arrangements and Company minimum manning requirements
o Provide technical support to corporate activities including but not limited to: Acceptance Review, Periodic Review of Safety, Review Learn and Improve, Audit, HAZOP (hazard and operability study technique), ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable), Waste Assessment Steering Group, Airborne Discharges Monitoring Group, QE (Qualified Expert) (RSA93), Best Practicable Means, RAMTAP (Radioactive and Special Materials Transport Approved Package) / RAMSCAP (Radioactive and Special Materials Storage Containers and Approval Panel) as directed by Head of Radiation Protection
· Performance delivery
o To participate in a programme of continuous professional development and maintain a portfolio evidence in support of continued accreditation as an RPA
o Provide technical support to the setting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with regard to dose restriction / limitation for all employees / contractors on Company sites
o To line manage staff and provide mentoring in support of career development as set out in the Company line managers handbook
o Assist in the development of radiation protection standards and technical underpinning of radiation protection processes at the Company
o Attend technical committees to provide RPA technical input as and when required
o Represent the radiation protection function at the Company to external bodies as required by Head of Radiation Protection
o Provide technical support to the health physics monitoring teams in the delivery of a radiation protection monitoring service to their customers
o Promote and maintain effective interfaces with customers to ensure their requirements are being met
o Maintain an effective relationship with external professional bodies, such as the Society of Radiological Protection and other industry working groups
o Establish effective relationship with external stakeholders such as Health and Safety Executive / Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, Environment Agency and Nuclear Weapons Regulator as required by Head of Radiation Protection
· Financially Successful
o Ensure that appropriate competent resources are allocated to meet customer requirements and appointing suitably qualified and experienced persons
o Ensure that overhead costs are minimised, and that the company optimises costs in the functional areas of the business
