The Co-operative Group is due to open a new £25m distribution centre at Newhouse, North Lanarkshire.
The facility replaces operations in Pitreavie, which has already closed, and Cumbernauld and Harthill, which will close before the end of 2011,
Newhouse will employ 1,000 staff - 100 less than the three other centres.
The Co-operative said it may need to recruit 300 staff for Newhouse as not all staff had opted to transfer from Pitreavie, Cumbernauld and Harthill.
"Major investment"
The 503,000sq ft Newhouse depot is is expected to be fully operational by September.
It will serve 618 stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland and operate a fleet of 370 lorries and 140 fork-lift trucks and low-level order pickers.
Co-operative Group chief executive, Peter Marks, said: "Newhouse is an excellent location to serve our stores across Scotland and Northern Ireland and is the latest major investment in our logistics network.
"Our new regional distribution centre is also a major investment in and commitment to the local community and will not only provide major employment locally but will also help further boost the local economy for many years to come."
