Four Preston College students tested their skills to Ministry of Defence standards working on a Royal Navy submarine- and landed themselves jobs into the bargain.
The quartet are all studying fabrication and welding at the Fulwood-based college.
Peter Greenwood, Scott Mathews, James Burdekin and Martin Standing were given a hands-on opportunity to weld to MOD standards.
The company was so impressed with their skills that they were all awarded a three month contract at the site.
Former baker Scott enrolled on the course at the St Vincent’s Road college in the hope of carving out a new career.
He said: “I can’t show my appreciation enough to my tutors who have trained me for three years to get me to this position and give me the chance of a new career.”
Mike Willetts, Welding Training Assessor for BAE Systems who run the site said: “This was a great opportunity for the students and great relationship building between the site and Preston College.”
Kev Murphy, welding tutor at Preston College said: “It was a great opportunity for our students to not only see how welding is used in the MOD .”
