Using Twitter for Post Military Jobs

Wednesday May 4, 2011 at 7:26am

If you didn't know, social media is playing a bigger part in the world of ex-military recruitment than ever, and aside from the more professional LinkedIn, Twitter is actually a fantastic tool to use in your job search.

Don't see Twitter as just a social tool, as by crafting out clever searches you can uncover networking opportunities that could really open doors for you and impress key people.

Try it - simply go and create a Twitter account, type in a search for a job title or area of interest and look through the results to find people either advertising or talking about it.

Connect or 'follow' these people to send them a message and find out more or even just click the link normally in the tweet. This approach is just the tip of the iceberg; the rest is down to your networking skills so get out there! (Oh and don’t forget to follow us once you register!)

You must be kidding! Aren't we disadvantaged enough by not knowing the right people to get the right military assignment without introducing another potential obstacle to overcome. Not everyone uses Twitter. I'd prefer to spend any extra money on funding more staff in personnel centres, imposing greater quality control and transparency, and removing all nepotism. ...

Completly agree Dominic. I believe the Armed Forces doesn't place enough emphasis of social media during resettlement. I'm in Sydney at the minute and everyone tweets. 80% of business recruit via LinkedIn which is, of course, 'linkable' to Twitter. If you don't use social networking for job searching you are putting yourself at a serious disadvantage if you're trying to reach the key decision makers in the top companies. I have just been offered a great role with a superb company and the initial contact was all thanks to Twitter and LinkedIn. To support your comments, look up any od the numerous social media videos of youtube. A good one to start: Twitterhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIFYPQjYhv8 ...
