I just want to open this weeks employment BLOG with saying what a fantastic ‘Career Transition Event’ BFRS staged at Catterick last Thursday, the number of attendees definitely surpassed previous events and I was left hoarse from all the talking!!
Many thanks to the team for providing a great venue, support and the best event to date.
Now to my weekly tips and advice…..
Taking on the Tough Interviews
To be offered an interview for your first civilian role (or any position), is a great achievement so there is no space for half efforts when you meet face to face. One excellent technique to ensure you're prepared is to work out the questions that you would least like to be asked and prepare water-tight answers.
Thoroughly research and practise a plausible reply that can be delivered in a cool, composed manner if the situation presents itself. This could be anything from work gaps since you left the Forces or what you think your weaknesses are. Don't be defensive, highlight the good points and how you have, or will, adapt to move the conversation back into a positive light.
Research and Rehearse
One commonly overlooked factors we find with candidates at interview is the level of research they have made on the company. This is extremely important if you want to stand a chance in front of a potential employer.
Treat it like a course; make sure you know such things as common commercial terminologies or abbreviations, the history of the company, their clients or target market and their aims as a company. Your knowledge in these areas will make the employer feel confident in your enthusiasm and genuine interest for the role.
