I contacted Gemini Forces & BFRS so that I could share with you my information about resettling in a new life in Canada. I am June Spindloe and I live in Nova Scotia a Province on the east coast of Canada, for many years I have been involved in resettling people form across the globe.
Relocation Nova Scotia also attends the emigrate shows in UK and in the last couple of years we have noticed more and more enquiries from Brits who are becoming increasing frustrated with the life style in UK. We also have noticed the increase in enquiries from members of the forces, and we are currently working with several families who will be here in the next one or two years as their applications go through.
That got me thinking as to why we don’t have more enquiries from families who know they will be leaving the forces and they also know ahead of time when they will leave.
I think it simply is a question of getting the information out there in any way we can about the options available to you. For those of you reading this that have already been stationed in Canada and have been impressed with the quality of life here it is often a natural choice to consider one of the main stream Provinces such as BC. or Ontario which is why I would like you to consider Nova Scotia . Whether you know it or not you already have plenty of skill that will make you a successful candidate, besides your actual work skills and education.
Motivation is also a common problem for most potential newcomers from Civvy Street, people know they want to change something but never quite manage to get moving towards the goal.
Most of us would think twice before starting a new life in a new country and would view it as a daunting prospect. Military families on the other hand see this is as the norm and the reverse is true, military families are looking for stability and quality life style choices when they are making their long term plans to resettle.
If was to look back over the last ten years and describe the qualities and characteristics of someone who would be most likely to succeed as a potential newcomer to Canada it would easily reflect all of the qualities that service personnel already have.
These are to name a few:
Confidence in their abilities and families abilities to transition to a new culture
Determination to succeed
Work ethic of core values, honesty, integrity.
Organisational skills
Adaptable,
Flexible, ready to learn new skills.
That’s all good news, so it’s my job to give you the opportunity to discover all that Nova Scotia has to offer. I’ll start by giving you some facts and figures and a geography lesson.
Nova Scotia is a beautiful province, a peninsular on Canada’s east coast, flying time to London is 6 hours, its the closest mainland port to Europe and the only east coast container port deep enough to handle fully laden container ships, our ports are also busy with cruise ship traffic with over 100 vessels visiting every year.
There is 4,750 miles of coastline, and no matter where you are in NS you are never more than 33 miles from the Sea. We also have 5,000 lakes to enjoy.
We offer a wonderful lifestyle where the people are friendly, the housing is affordable, there are good schools, and we have the most universities in Canada.
With under a million in population Nova Scotia will have within the next five years over 45,000 jobs opening up just to replace retiring workers. Currently the employment growth in Greater Halifax has outpaced the population growth.
Now for many of you reading this it may be the first time you have explored the fact and figures and demographics of anywhere this closely but once you understand what makes that Nova Scotia different to other Provinces then you will understand why I am passionate about what I do and love to spread the word about this amazing Province that is now our home.
I will be writing next time about how to start the process, and what routes are possible to take and where to find the information, no matter what stage of resettlement you are in.
I will work with you every step of the way to plan your research trip, ensuring you have a detailed itinerary to make the most of your visit, helping you with everything from the most effective immigration route, finding a consultant if you chose to use one, financial advice, shipping, setting up your banking, right through to buying or renting your new home.
