Having spent some thought on how to move forward with an employment BLOG, when individuals are at such varying points in either their transition, job seeking status or even civilian career transition, I thought it would be best not to go from A – Z, but look at subjects, sectors and news as it occurs to complement the stages individuals are at. One national brand announced the creation of 7500 jobs yesterday to be formed over the next year…

Would you consider Asda as a potential career step? Or as soon as you hear a supermarket brand you switch off?
Now this has nothing to do with me recruiting for them, just highlighting opportunities and how diverse these organisations are!
Andy Clarke, Asda's chief executive said “that next year we will once again create thousands of new jobs at every level of our growing business,"
It is “at every level” that I want people to reflect on as it is not just about the shop floor, although that is just as an important part in their continued growth, it is the transferable skills that service personnel develop throughout their service career and paths they are seeking, such as management. At Asda there are openings in Operations, Supply, HR, Trading even as a Wine Selector!
Then there is the logistical side to the organisation, which is crucial to any organisational success. Transport operations managers, Transport Efficiency managers, Finance, Engineers, line managers, the list go on!
If you’re looking to start a new career from fresh and may not have the necessary qualifications or experience to start at the above levels, than training, development & progression from within is what builds a solid platform that companies such as Asda lead so well in.
This is only a very brief overview hopefully to open eyes and minds to what is available from organisations that you may not consider, just because of a name or a brand…….I would really appreciate your thoughts, especially if it is a path you have taken, considering or are now looking into!? As it is advice from fellow members that in reality is priceless.
