In really tough times, some employers being ‘potentially’ in a strong position to utilise the job seekers vulnerability in the job market, how have you “Bridged the Gap” choosing or resettling in the location of your choice since leaving the Forces?
Demographically we wish to settle after leaving the military either amongst family, where our children are being educated or where you feel you want to set your roots after serving in the forces.
No option provides an easy choice and everybody’s circumstances vary. How has the location you opted for affected your development, progression or stability?
My progression and development has been seamless since leaving HM Forces. I pondered going back to education, university, however I felt the mixtures of my skills, training, education that I gained through the forces was enough to gain employment with in my chose field. I had the freedom to relocate, to make these huge changes in my life, and have never regretted the diversity in my decisions; we do not all have this freedom of these choices though.
So, how have the choices you made with relocating from the military affected your opportunities? Is there a lack of support or network in your area? Has the recession had a serious knock-on effect since moving to that location?
Where have you settled in the UK or overseas and what implication has that caused, positive or negative?
